Album Review:

Recorded at the Waikiki Shell in Hawaii on September 14, 1963, Waikiki Surf Battle Vol 2 is a roaring, unmistakably raw document of obscure and unknown surf bands at the height of the genre’s popularity.

The record is cut loud and recorded remarkably well for a live concert of this era. There are no overdubs or fixes, so everything that happened that night 60 years ago is clear to hear - mistakes and all. All selections are incredibly energetic and played with great excitement.

A very scarce album indeed, this and Vol I are understandably expensive on the rare occasions when they arise on auction sites. Both can fetch upwards of $200. Both were reissued in 1996 on McGarrett Records.
