Album Review:

The soundtrack to the 1967 film of the same name was pressed on Tower Records and released in stores in 1967.

'Moonfire' is an electrifying instrumental from Dave Allen & the Arrows. The real reason to check this album is the Riptides' 'Last Wave of the Day.' The Riptides would be heard again (uncredited) on Capitol's The Golden Breed Soundtrack the following year. 'Beast of Sunset Strip' is a fun morbid rocker that's incredibly well-arranged. References to woodie wagons, skateboards, and surfboards abound, making it a solid addition to the monster-themed tracks by the likes of the Munsters and Deadly Ones.

The rest of the album is an uneven musical assortment of essentially what was happening in Hollywood at the time. These range from somewhat palpable ('This Magic Night' - Mike Clifford) to utterly unlistenable ('Great God Pan' - God Pan, 'You're Beautiful' - Darrel Dee)

Mondo Hollywood is not a great album. There are some pretty great late surf moments on here, but they are sadly weighed down by some truly horrendous tracks.
