Album Review:

The second edition of Surfbeat again featured the Challengers (this time under the guise of ‘Surfriders’) and featured 12 new tracks.

It’s unknown why drummer and label owner Richard Delvy chose to attribute the sequel to the classic Surfbeat to another group. Perhaps he wasn’t too happy with the choice of material on this one or maybe he just wanted to bolster the lineup of ‘artists’ In the label. Where the reason, Vol 2 basically picks up where the first one left off.

There are some classics on here that would later appear on subsequent Challengers releases, but despite the high production value and tight playing, there is nothing too much that stands out. That’s not to say this is a bad album - it’s actually quite good - picks such as ‘Surfer’s Blues’ and ‘Sunset Surfing’ make seeking out this release worth it. Nevertheless, it’s not quite up to par with the rest of the Challengers/Vault catalog.
