Album Review:

Ever wondered what hot rod music may have sounded like if Dick Dale had picked up a trombone instead of a guitar? Assuming the main mode of popular music at the time was big band jazz, then this could have been what surfmusic evolved into...well, maybe not. Despite the cover touting a red hot rod and claiming to be "hot rod jazz", the music on this platter has very little to do with the its rock counterpart.

All tunes are performed in an early 60s big band swing style.

Though many labels (mostly budget) repackaged older jazz/swing tunes as hot rod and surf music, none of these instrumentals had much to offer in lieu of the exciting rumble of the real thing. Then again, maybe CBS should receive some credit for being so forthcoming with their own packaging. Either way, Larry Wilcox and Orchestra offer nothing of interest to the surf rock connoisseur.
