That's All Right / Last Night I Told Her / Tiki God / The Girl I Met / Mary Had A Little Stingray / Tell Me / I Wanna Do It Again

Album Review:

The Legends were one of those local garage bands that self-released one extremely rare record and then vanished. That's All Right was not released on a label but was manufactured by Audio Recording & Mfg Co. in 1964. According to the cover, the band consisted of Bob Eisenman (Rhythm Guitar), Joe Mangan (Bass), and Bill Planck (Drums). While all songs are originals, all borrow pretty heavily from well-known rock standards.

What compelled me to seek this album out was the inclusion of what is possibly the rarest vocal hot rod number of all time, 'Mary Had A Little Stingray.' While the endearingly raw performance frequently overshadows the low quality of many private press surf records, this song is so poorly constructed and playing devoid of any musical cohesion 'Mary's Stingray' is better left lost.  Despite the cover touting that the remaining tracks carry the "new British Sound," the rest of the songs sit somewhere between American garage band and surf group.

Like many other private press records, That's All Right will only be of interest to completists and the three musicians who dreamed up these tunes.
