Album Review:

The Atlantics' second album release of 1963 picks up very much where Bombora left off.

A rapid tom groove underscores the trippy 'The Crusher.' 'Coral Island' is a more traditional surf number, while 'Tequila Stomp' borrows heavily from the Champs' well-known 1958 hit. 'Tahitian Waters' is another experimental surf composition. The truly odd 'Teddy Bears Picnic Stomp' is an update on John Walter Bratton's 1907 popular tune. Hootenanny Stomp' is good fun, while the 'Gremlin from the Kremlin' has little to differentiate it from the rest of the tracks. 'Shark Attack' is actually a pretty cool surf number with an inventive premise and a percussive B section; it's easily the pick of the bunch. 'S.O.S. (Stomp On Stomp)' is another sweet surf instrumental in the vein of Dick Dale. The weird sounds of 'Stompede' may be interesting on first listen, but I can't imagine revisiting this track often. 'Arabian Surf'  offers nothing new. The Atlantics let loose on the final track, 'Stompin' Time,' featuring an extended drum break and some low twangy guitars.

Like their first album, Now It's Stompin' Time is played with great finesse, and the tunes are administered well. The sounds within are very much in line with many Aussie groups and mimic the clean pre-surf British playing of the Shadows. If you're looking for the wet California surf sound, this ain't it, but if you're down to broaden your musical horizons, then the Atlantics may just win you over...
