Album Review:

Released in 1967 on Tower Records (a subsidiary of Capitol Records, where groups seemed to go to die), The Wild Angels is really a mishmash of random songs jumbled together under the guise of a soundtrack album. The truth is, there’s really nothing here very interesting to hear.

Sure, there’s plenty of fuzz guitar on ‘Blues Theme’ which will no doubt be familiar to Davie Allan fans if that’s your sort of thing but I’d suggest seeking out the Arrows album of the same name. Other than that, we’re treated to some pretty soulless and uninspired tunes from a bevy of unknown artists in various styles. “Bongo Party” sounds like it was recorded in 1963, and “Rockin’ Angel” isn’t even 1:30 sec long. There’s even an Elvis impersonation on “Lonely in the Chapel.” ‘Midnight Rider’ is probably the album’s best track (last picture). Taking a cue from the last track; “The Wild Angels’ Ballad (Dirge), this album really is a dirge in many ways. Also, may I say that it also has one of the least attractive covers of all time?

My advice is to skip this one… anyone want a copy?
