Album Review:
One of the weirder Jan and Dean outings, Filet of Soul was originally envisioned as a comedy and music album in the vein of the potential T.V. series the duo had been dreaming up. Such a vision had been previously realized on their Jan & Dean Meet Batman album released just one month prior in March. Liberty excized all the comedy skits, and what was left over was a segmented hodgepodge of live cuts, outtakes from previous albums, and underwhelming b-sides. Notable tracks include a live version of 'Honolulu Lulu', the original version of 'New Girl In School' (titled ' Gonna Hustle You'), and a very overproduced rendition of 'Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)'.
If you're interested in hearing the original album intact with all the spoken-word bits, the album was released as Filet of Soul Redux: The Rejected Master Recordings.
