Album Review:
Released late in the surfing craze, Golden Surfing Hits features everyone’s favorite surfer girl covering a collection of surfing hits from the previous two summers.
Backed with the Disney chorus and Annette’s adorable delivery, these tunes get a sunny, bright-eyed treatment fitting for the genre. Classics such as ‘Surfin,’ ‘Surf City,’ and ‘Sidewalk Surfin’ are all great fun, while lesser-known tracks like ’Ride The Wild Surf’ benefit from Mrs. Funicello’s enchantment. ‘Surfer Boy’ (a rewrite of ‘Surfer Girl’) is perhaps the album's most charming moment. ‘Balboa Blue’ and ‘Surfers Stomp’ are instrumentals played in that clasic 60s Disney style. Both 'No One Could Be Prouder' and 'A Boy to Love' were from Muscle Beach Party. One of the biggest surprises is an uncredited appearance of The Beach Boys on ‘Monkeys Uncle’ from the motion picture of the same name.
Golden Surfing Hits is basically a good time rolled up into one disc.
