A sequel of sorts to their first album, Boss Drag, the similarly titled Boss Drag at the Beach was released only a few months following. Unfortunately, the T-Bones second release of 1964 does not rise to the same levels of legitimacy as their introductory offering.

'White Water Wipe-Out' is a valid beach-themed number. 'Pearlin'' is another strong track with a glassy surf guitar attached to the A section. 'Bucket Seat Beauty' sounds inspired by 'Green Onions' but is just unique enough to this reviewer's ears to warrant a recommendation. 'Thunder Road' again features the ultra-60s organ as the centerpiece. Covers of 'Hot Rod U.S.A.' and 'Competition Coupe' are mundane, to say the least, and while 'Chopped Deuce' does have a rockin fuzz guitar in the middle, it is overall plain unimaginative. 'Takin' Gas' is 'Three Blind Mice' in disguise.  'Haulin' Henry,' 'Five Over,' 'Boss Woody' and 'High Boy Hauler' are all comparably dull and uninteresting exercises.

While their first release carried some audible moments, the heavy use of organ, castanets, and bells do date this release quite mercilessly. The result is that everything feels too clean and polished to be real hot rod music. Caught somewhere between the homegrown west-coast beat and mediocre discotheque dancing sound, the T-Bones' Boss Drag at the Beach is woefully out of touch with its source material.
